In Bridging Loan Directory’s latest Five Minute Interview, Tony Sanchez speaks with Jacob Tate, Business Development Manager (North) at Bluecroft Finance, discussing his approach to bridging finance, what motivates him day to day, and the challenges facing the industry.
Based in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, Jacob is known for his energy, people-first approach and genuine passion for the bridging market.
What is the best thing about being in the bridging finance business?
“The industry is full of character. It’s built on relationships, trust and doing what you’re saying you’re going to do, and that’s alright with me!”
What keeps you focused?
“I think a monthly target helps!
There are always pressures and expectations in this field of work, and they certainly have their weight in driving you on a daily basis.
However, an internal desire to perform is the bigger factor that gets me out of bed and on task. Of course, benefits and being remunerated add an additional carrot.
But overall, it’s a love for my life’s work and the fact that I’m quite fond of my job, the industry, and the camaraderie between internal staff and brokers.”
What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?
“Team players, support, and progression would be my quick summary.
The industry is built on relationships, and I’m a people person, cheesy as that may sound.
I resonate with individuals and businesses who are passionate about what they do. You find that when people care about their work, they’re typically quite good at it. It’s inspiring, and you can learn a lot.
These situations always bring out the best in me and open doors for more opportunities.”
Are you an optimist or a pessimist?
“I know I’m an optimist! I never like tooting my own trumpet; however, people have always commented on my energy and how I can light up a room, even back in my school days.
Yes, we all get a little down from time to time, but my overall outlook on life is definitely glass half full.”
What did you want to be as a child?
“After watching Indiana Jones, I wanted to be an archaeologist.
However, I quickly realised I hate the feeling of dirt under my nails. Let’s be honest, it was never going to work, was it?
Digging up fossils and trying to find an ancient grave in a soggy field. I think it’s worked out okay though, as I type this response from a lovely warm desk in January! I’m happy.”
What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging finance industry in the coming months?
“The current global uncertainty is playing out on a daily basis.
Our industry is the UK property market, and the things we’re currently seeing, from war speculation to oil reserves, can have a direct effect by dampening buyer and investor confidence.
We could be experiencing even slower transactions, currency fluctuations, and disruptions to our supply and demand dynamics.
We need a little more peace and love if you ask me—ha!”
Who or what makes you laugh?
“Karl Pilkington. His miserable, unimpressed outlook just cracks me up!”
Do you dread Monday mornings?
“No, blessed to be here. Another day on planet earth. End of! Lap is up rain or shine.”
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
“That’s easy. Have more patience, as I have little to none. I often find myself saying ‘Breeeeeaath Jacob’.”
With whom would you most like to have dinner?
“Keith Richards, lead guitarist from The Rolling Stones and total Pirate.”
